I invite you to come and visit one of my favorite local coffee shops in the Heights: “A 2nd Cup” is located on 11th Street, just East of Studemont. It is a non-profit coffee shop that brews local Boomtown coffee and seeks to increase awareness of human trafficking in a way that reaches as many people as possible in a non-conventional way.
A 2nd Cup is working alongside other non-profits local to Houston to use the funds they receive from coffee sales to help support survivors with housing, mentoring, job skills and life skills for reintegration into society. Houston has a long history with sex trafficking; it surrounds us in our everyday lives and most people do not know it. Houston is one of the largest hubs for transferring the victims of trafficking.
The coffee shop has a private room in the back that is used for meetings, corporate events and even yoga. The front open space includes tables and chairs, a mock living room with fireplace and information about trafficking mixed in. Their breakfast tacos and iced mochanut are my go-to items. They also serve lunch and dinner.
If you are looking for a great local place to have coffee then why not go here where they give back to your local community.
