Houston’s Downtown is a well-developed business area that is home to many of the city’s Fortune 500 corporate residents. Skyscrapers rub shoulders with original buildings dating back to the early 1900s. An expansive network of tunnels allow the downtown workers to get their daily business done without being subjected to Houston’s summer temperatures.
Sports and Entertainment
Live music and professional baseball and basketball teams also reside here, as well as all major performing art centers. Houston has a permanent ballet troupe and a resident symphony orchestra that makes it one of the best-served cultural centers nationwide.
Lofts and More
In addition, Downtown boasts loft living with roof top pools in historic buildings, plus an ever-growing culinary and shopping scene. Discovery green is a great outdoor area to enjoy fitness classes, live music, reading a book or ice-skating during the winter. Many of Houston’s art and cultural festivals are hosted in Downtown’s varied selection of outdoor public parks and spaces.
Houston’s expanding light rail system is centered on Downtown, with the Main Street Line connecting Downtown to the Medical Center and the NRG Stadium complex, which hosts the Houston Texans, the annual three-week rodeo and a year-round schedule of exhibitions and events.
