Optimum Luxury Living in Houston: River Oaks
Perhaps you favor quiet, tree lined streets spanning 1,100 acres and filled with some of the most legendary and expensive homes in America. If so, you share discriminating tastes (and buying power) with the residents of River Oaks.
An Oasis in the Heart of Houston
Developed in the 1920s by Michael Hogg and attorney Hugh Potter, River Oaks is Houston’s best known residential garden neighborhood. Located within the 610 Loop in between Downtown and Uptown, it is home to Houston’s millionaires and billionaires who enjoy the seclusion of prestigious multi-acre lots in the middle of our beautiful city.
Yet the area has plenty of access into the greater metroplex. To the north you’ll find Buffalo Bayou, to the east is South Shepherd Drive, to the west Willowick Road, and to the south Westheimer Road. Other major thoroughfares include Kirby Drive and San Felipe Street.
The River Oaks Country Club and golf course is the most exclusive in Houston, but the area also includes restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra. Houston’s very first shopping center — the River Oaks Shopping Center — draws people to the area daily. Residents also enjoy River Oaks Park and a Pumpkin Carriage, as well as the River Oaks Community Center (operated by the City of Houston).
In and Around the Neighborhood
This is a fabulous community to call home. The Houston Community College System, the University of St. Thomas in Montrose and Rice University are in close proximity, as is Houston’s famed Museum District.
