West University/Rice Village
This is the most pedestrian-friendly area in Houston with boutiques and restaurants galore in what people know as Rice Village. It is sought after for its tree-lined, suburban-like feel for families and young professionals who want the neighborhood feel but in the city. It has parks scattered throughout and is bordered to the south by Braes Bayou with its miles of jogging and bike trails.
Also, it is home to Houston’s Ivy League school, Rice University, which means that it is also home to a lively student community who are entertained by the bars and restaurants along Morningside Drive. This part of Houston offers an amazing range of older homes, high-end mid-rise developments and apartment communities that allows its residents to choose their lifestyle on a day-to-day basis, from whisper quiet to shout-out loud.
